Dolphin Communication

Dolphins are similar to the child that won’t quiet down. They are continually making resonances of one of two sorts: open or navigational. The distinctive sounds are made in diverse ways.

Echolocation sounds are delivered in their nasal sections just underneath their blowholes, and are called clicks. Clicks are now and then created in such quick progression that they sound like buzzes or even quacks, and radiated forward from the dolphin’s head. These sounds are created just behind the melon, a slick, somewhat unbalanced bump on what you’d call the dolphin’s brow, and the sound waves are concentrated forward through it.

Researchers are not by any stretch of the imagination certain how the melon functions, yet it does appear to open up and illuminate the dolphin’s echolocation sounds, and may have impact in gathering the sounds skipping back. They permit a dolphin to recognize amazingly nitty gritty data from their general surroundings. In one test, a dolphin discovered a marble-sized circle at more than the length of a football field. A few researchers conjecture that echolocation sounds might likewise be utilized to convey an acoustic stun to little prey.

In the larynx, dolphins can deliver piercing shrieks and squeals which can quickly change pitch. Shrieks are single tones, with no vibrations that make them sound like buzzes. The extent that researchers can tell, the shrieks are a type of correspondence with different dolphins, and squeals are utilized to express caution or sexual fervor.

There have been unlimited studies done on whether dolphins correspond with dialect, some more dependable than others. Indeed significant scientists have made some pretty fantastical cases with minimal experimental information supporting their cases. On the flip side, fisheries and other people who rely on upon the passings of dolphins to backing their jobs have a tendency to minimize the correspondence and discernment of dolphins, infrequently comparing them with fish.

The Art of Writing

During the Stone age, people already have the knowledge to make a picture representing an object. Cave men carved shapes of animals on the walls. And these is how they still communicate with us today, by the pictures they drew on the walls. You may wonder, it’s not writing, it is called drawing. However, it is how the art of writing was first formed. Pictures became more complicated.

The Native American Indians had also different kinds of picture writing long before when Columbus arrived. One examples are the Mayans in Central America which highly developed their written language as well as their hieroglyphics.

It was when they took a giant step when they made pictures to represent sounds and not only objects. The Ancient Sumerians living in Mesopotamia which is now Iraq, discovered this 5, 000 years ago. The Chinese, still have one of the most complicated form of writing, until today. In their language, each symbol makes only one symbol. And therefore, they have thousands of them to write.

The next step in improving the art of writing was to invent the written language which each symbol stands for a single sound rather than one word. This is now what we call the alphabet. The word “alphabet” came from first two letters of the Greek Alphabet which are alpha and beta. The first people to use the alphabet were the Hebrews, the people living in Mediterranean and the Phoenicians.

One of the causes why ancient books where so precious and rare is because it took a lot of time and skills to be able to finish each one of them. The second is because there wasn’t a lightweight material that the people could write on. However, the Chinese already knew how to make paper from materials like bamboo silk and linen. Not until Marco Polo visited the China they knew about the paper. When it comes to ink, the Egyptians and the Chinese were the first.

Mistakes In Constructing Sentences

i.

A usual mistake is combining two sentences or either two independent clauses improperly using an incorrect punctuation instead of the correct ones which are the ff: semi-colon or a conjunction*.

*conjunction: a word used to connect clauses or sentences to make them into one sentence or clause. Examples: and, but, if, or

Example of the mistake: We don’t have sodas, he should buy some from the store.

(The comma makes it incorrect)

We can change it into:

We don’t have sodas. He should buy some from the store. ( making them two separate sentences)

We don’t have sodas so he should buy some from the store. ( use a conjunction to join the two)

Since we don’t have sodas, he should buy some from the store. ( turning one of the clauses into a subordinate/ dependent)

We don’t have sodas; he should buy some from the store. ( using a semicolon to make a compound sentence)

ii.

Another common mistake is known as the sentence fragment*.

*sentence fragment: group of words that are used together but does not convey a complete thought or form any complete sentence.

Examples using independent clauses as sentences:

  • Because I was the best person in class. ( incorrect )
  • Since yesterday afternoon. ( incorrect )
  • I was accepted because I was the best person in class.( correct )
  • I’ve been working on our project since yesterday afternoon. ( correct )

Examples using the wrong form of a verb.

  • He make dinner a while ago. ( incorrect )
  • Miley has showed her how to do the groceries. ( incorrect )
  • He made his dinner just a while ago. ( correct )
  • Miley has shown her how to do the groceries. ( correct )

iii. Last but not the least, placing words and phrases in the wrong part of the sentences:

Example:

The fireman is a brave man who entered the burning house. ( incorrect )

The fireman who entered the burning house is a brave man. ( correct )
